Mike Ponce

Mike Ponce is an Angeleno majoring in Management Science and Engineering major at Stanford University and is also pursuing a minor in Atmosphere/Energy Engineering.  He first came to Stanford in Fall of 2006 intending to major in Sociology.  Due to family financial troubles, he decided to leave indefinitely in December 2006 to work full-time.  While in Los Angeles, he held various jobs including a nighttime janitorial position at a hotel chain, a cook at a fast-food restaurant, and a Calculus tutor at a charter school.vel  After three years of working, he enrolled at the University of Southern California in order continue school closer to home.  While there, he discovered his passion for business and the tech industry through the Latino Business Student Association, the USC Program Board, Hermanos Unidos, and the robotics team.  It was not too long before the lure of the Silicon Valley and the opportunities it presented ultimately led him to return to Stanford in Fall 2010 to finish the remainder of his undergraduate education.  He is currently involved with the First Generation Low Income Partnership and is a founding member of Stanford’s chapter of the Alexander Hamilton Society.  He will be working in the Research Programs team at Google this summer.
